Flavorah Concentrates for Wax Melts and Candles

While Flavorah concentrates are primarily food-grade flavor products, many DIY makers use them to scent wax melts, candles, and wax sachets. The oil-soluble formulas integrate into melted wax without separation, and the highly concentrated nature means you can achieve noticeable scent throw with a small amount of product.  Water soluble flavors can work in natural candles with low melt point waxes such as soy. Not recommended for use with paraffin based wax.

Recommended Usage Rates

• Wax melts: 1-3% by weight of wax
• Container candles: 1-3% by weight of wax
• Wax sachets: 2-4% for stronger cold throw
• These rates are higher than food applications because scent must project through air rather than be tasted directly

Technique

Melt your wax to the manufacturer's recommended pouring temperature. Remove from heat and allow the temperature to drop to approximately 10-15 degrees above the pour point. Add Flavorah oil-soluble concentrate and stir gently for two minutes to distribute evenly. Pour into containers or molds. Adding at a lower temperature reduces evaporation of the scent compounds. For wax melts, allow to cure for 48-72 hours before use for best scent development.

Recipe Ideas

• Vanilla bean candle: add Flavorah Vanilla Custard at 2% to soy wax for a warm, bakery-inspired scent
• Cinnamon apple wax melts: blend Flavorah Apple at 1.5% and Flavorah Cinnamon at 0.5% in paraffin wax
• Tropical coconut candle: add Flavorah Coconut at 2% to coconut soy wax blend for a beach-inspired scent
• Lavender sachets: add Flavorah Lavender at 3% to beeswax sachets for drawer and closet freshening

Flavorah concentrates are not traditional fragrance oils and may have lower hot throw than purpose-made candle fragrances. They work best in wax melts and small container candles where scent projection distance is shorter.
